Sweet angel, baby love Barnes is FIVE months old!
He was just born, and now he's five months. I just can't wrap my head around it. Sweet Barnes is just the cutest, squishiest thing! When he smiles, his cheeks get even fuller and I can't stop kissing them!
Things about Barnes at FIVE months:
- Still going strong with the nursing. Sometimes, I feel like I can't keep up with him but he does love his mommy's milk. He is still eating during the day about every 3 hours. He could totally stretch it to a 4 hour schedule, but we just haven't made that transition yet. Partially because I'm lazy, and don't want to try out a new schedule. We'll get there.
- For turning five months, Barnes got to try baby oatmeal (mixed with breast milk). In my head, I imagined him attacking the spoon like Hudson and Lillian did. He had all the cues: watching me eat, leaning in for a bite, and sitting up with good head control. So we started the solids on his 5 month birthday, and he kinda liked it, but didn't seem too impressed. He was just really confused on what was going in his mouth. Honestly, I feel like I was putting this off too because once you start with feeding them, it never stops. Literally! I still go to my parents to eat pretty regularly. But its time, so i will keep feeding him oatmeal around 5;30 pm for a week or two and then maybe start with some veggies. I'm going to attempt to make all his food, like I did with Sissy.
- Sleepy sleep sleep. Whoa, we've been kind of inconsistent lately. A few weeks ago, he was going through a totally awful time with sleep. He was waking multiple times and I wasn't really sleeping either. So I decided to slowly transition out of the swaddle. He's had one arm out for about a week now, and will bring the other arm out soon. He's still got that startle reflex pretty bad, so he swats at his face, but he's actually done well with it. Goes to bed at 7:30 pm and sleeps until about 4:00 am (ish), nurse, and go back to sleep until 8:00 am. That boy should be sleeping 12 hours at night...have you seen his thighs? Baby steps, I guess. Still taking 3 naps a day.
- Just moved up to size 3 diapers. Where have they been all his chunky life? Wearing 6-9 month clothing. I really think he's actually thinning up a bit, but is still very long. I can tell we .will have a romper stride problem forever. On July 30th (4 month checkup), he was 16 lbs 12 oz (80%), 26 in long (90%), and 75% for head. Homeboy has a big ole head.
- Rolling rolling everywhere. Back to belly and belly to back. He can now roll across the room. The hardest part is keeping him on his playmat and not rolling onto the hard floor.
- He started sitting in the exersaucer, and can hang out in there for 10-15 mins at a time. After that, he's over it.
- Pretty much has to have eyes on mommy at.all.times. And anytime after 5:00 pm, he is most likely on my hip. And if he's not being held, he has to be touching me. Geez! It makes dinner time and bath time very interesting! The boy loves to be held!
His current loves: Mommy, loves to belly laugh, being held, his pap-pap, the vacuum cleaner, watching Hudson and Lillian run around. Dislikes: when mommy walks away, 20 mintues before naptime (bc he's grumpy)
Barnes Thomas Lindley, sometimes I look at you and just want to cry. You are amazingly loved and amazingly ours and I am so thankful that God gave us you!
This open smile... I live for it!
