weeks three and four

I know I am late.
Hudson Lindley turned four weeks yesterday. FOUR weeks!
Where has the time gone? Oh yeah, I remember,
Nursing, waketime, sleeptime...repeat. And throw in about a million dirty diapers and lots a few major meltdowns (mostly Hudson's, I promise)

Again: nursing, waketime, sleeptime...did someone say BABYWISE?

Here is my sweet baby at 3 weeks. Bless his bones!

Doesn't he look like he's doing the "Thriller" dance?
He loves his MJ dance moves!

And at four weeks on October 27th.
I got those cute stickers from etsy.
And yes, we were in a mood yesterday.

And by "mood" I mean throwing an absolute fit!
Still so cute and showing some personality

But then he finally decided to pass out and I got some good shots!

Hudson with his Sleep Sheep.
If you don't know what a sleep sheep is and you are a new mom, GOOGLE IT IMMEDIATELY!
Hudson likes the ocean theme

God bless his little bones.

Other things that are happening around here:
-At his 2 week appt, he weighed 7 pounds, 5 oz and 21 inches long. He is currently in the 15% for his weight and 45% for his height.
-We are starting to have some extension of his cervical musculature! Tummy time is paying off, even though he hates it!
- Was recently put on Zantac for acid reflux. That worked ok, but he was still getting fussy at night so we changed for Prevacid solutabs...here's hoping for some tummy relief for that baby!
-Nursing every 3 hours during the day and can go 4-4.5 hours at night
- Still has a head full of blonde hair. I thought it was falling out, but after seeing his newborn photographs, it has actually gotten thicker! I adore that hair!
-He is probably about to grow out of his newborn clothing. Some of it is still too big, but the onesies are getting kinda snug. Momma keeps putting him in them. No, I don't have a 0-3 month old baby. He is a newborn baby, thankyouverymuch.
-In the last 2-3 days, we have been working on self-soothing techniques. That baby boy loves to be held...probably because he has a momma that loves to hold him
-Still loving life with my little man!

Hudson, mommy continues to be amazed by you!
You lived in my belly for 9 months and now you are here and four weeks old!
I love you to the moon and back!

As long as I'm living,
My baby you'll be.

(Hudson at 3 weeks old, October 20th)

I love you, Joseph Hudson Lindley!

Sorry I haven't been blogging much...been soaking up every second with this baby boy!

trickle

(no gross details, I promise)

Let's go back... Way back, to September 28. It was a normal chubby girl day for me. Got up, showered, didn't shave my legs...on the one day i REALLY needed to, put on big girl scrubs and headed to work. Didn't feel different at all. Worked until lunch. Ate a turkey sandwich with chips, fruit, chocolate, and granola bar.... Don't judge, I was eating for ten two. After lunch, I continued to see my patients like usual.

Around 2:30, I was in the unit and I felt a small 'trickle'. Now, at this point I'm thinking ''crap, the urinary incontinence portion of this pregnancy will commence.'' When the so-called trickle occurred, I was in a patient's room. That's right, in a patient's room. But let me clarify, there was no gush, no rush, or no fuss. I just thought I tee tee'd on myself. So I left his room and it happened again. Small trickle. Now I'm thinking "when it rains, it urinary incontinence pours."

As I walk down to my department, I'm kinda freaking out because I feel like something big just happened... Talk about butterflies! Grab my handbag and walk my butt over to labor and delivery. Speaking of handbag, this was LV's first ER experience... He was not allowed to play on the floor at first. Once I got to the ER, the lady said "would you like to pay your $100 ER co-pay?" To which my reply: "lady, I'm not giving you $100 for you to tell me I've tee tee'd on myself." yep, that's how I roll.

So they check me. All the while, I haven't told told anyone where I am... Joey doesn't know. My mom doesn't know. I didn't want to freak anyone out until I had definite news.

Turns out, my ferns were positive. Apparently, the ferns are the key. Ferns= water breaking. So I get on the phones. I call Joey and immediately start spitting out all the things that need to be in my hospital bag... He's freakin, I'm freakin, my doctors are laughing at me bc I'm trying to describe to Joey what my Tory Burch sandals look like. I mean, what is so hard about camel sandals with big "T"? Come on, Josie.

Next, I get up to the labor room and Joey and my mom get there. They give me an IV, and my contractions start... But I don't feel them at this point. Flash forward to 7:30 pm, and I am stating to feel the pain. Commence liquid gold, better known as an epidural. Now, my question is why would you NOT get one of these? They are fabulous and God's special gift to pregnant women. When I got my epidural, I was 1 cm and 50 % effaced.

The night went on a usual...you know, as usual as it can be when you are in labor and can't move your legs.
At 1:30 am, I was 4 cm and 60% effaced. Sweet josie and my mom are sleeping in the most uncomfortable chairs ever! Meanwhile, I'm just snoozing away...paralyzed legs and all.

At 3:30, they check me. 10 cm and 100% effaced. It's go time! I do a practice push and they call my doctor... This baby is coming, and won't be in the middle of the next day like they originally expected. I progressed so fast without use of meds. Baby Hudson was ready to meet his mom and dad!

So I push for an hour. Hardest hour of my life. No one can prepare you for that... Pushing your child out. It was weird though, like I wasn't in the slightest pain, but i could feel the pressure. Meanwhile, you have to breath right and push in the right area. It was hard! But totally painless and totally worth it!

At 5:07, Hudson Lindley came and he was perfect! Dad cut the umbilical cord and I immediately nursed. And of course he was hungry, so he took straight to it!

Moral of the story: I had a great labor experience. Water broke at work... I was delivering there anyway. My doctor was there and was fabulous! My epidural worked like a charm, and my child was healthy! And I know I am lucky, because not everyone can say that! But in the end, the worst experience would have been totally worth it, too, because he would be here.

So excited to meet our sweet baby!
side note: notice those skanky roots on my head? yeah, I was suppose to get a highlight the saturday after I went into labor...didn't get to make that appointment!

Doing that day's notes on my patients. Even though your water breaks, you are still responsible for your documentation.

I'd like to take a minute to talk about the labor/delivery room. It was wonderful...and nothing like the movies. It is just a normal hospital room. And when it is time to actually push, the bed goes all transformers on you and turns into the birthing bed with leg holders and stuff comes down from the ceiling..true story. And I also pictured people running around screaming "she's crowning" and "stat." Neither of those terms were used and there was definitely no one running around. It was the calmest, most laid back thing ever! 2-3 nurses and my doctor were the only medical personnel present...and of course, Joey and my mom.

After I delivered and things calmed down, they transferred us to the VIP suite...yeah, I got the suite. The perks of being a hospital employee.

At 5:07, our world changed forever! He is so sweet...and slimmy in this photo!

Love my little angel...20 inches long. He still makes that pout face when he is upset.

First family photo. I am looking rough and chubby, Josie looks terrified, and Hudson is screaming because he has been ripped from his comfy uterus home. Welcome, the Lindley family!

And I love this picture.
Looking at my new little muffin bones. Best moment of my life!

True life: I'm a mom!
And I love it!

BFFs

Two generations of best friends

I have known Jessica Bailey Shive for a LONG time! Third grade, I think? We have been best friends pretty much ever since. We were in eachother's weddings and we were pregnant at the same time. It was such a fun and amazing experience to be pregant with someone you are so close with. We got to compare stories and watch eachother get chubby. Ha!

Well, the end product? Two wonderful and healthy baby boys! Who will be forced to be BFFs, too!
Enter second generation.

I saw Carson Shive in the hospital, and of course, he was the sweetest thing ever! I immediately loved him already! And now Hudson is here...we just had to schedule their first playdate!
And here we are now. Two new moms and two sweet sons.
Hudson Lindley at 1 week and 6 days
Carson Shive at 8 weeks

Two boys with heads full of hair!
Both decked to the nines with Carson in his polo short-all and Hudson in his beloved swaddle

Hudson must have whispered something Carson didn't like. Ha!

And then they made up. How cute, their first fight.

Jessica, I can not thank you enough for helping me these last few weeks. You have kept me calm and listened to me cry and freak out. Not to mention all the fabulous advice you've given! Love you!

Carson and Hudson, ya'll are going to have so much fun together!

Dear Hudson

Dear Hudson Lindley,

You are 2 weeks old today. Where has the time gone? Seems like yesterday my water was breaking in a patient's room (true story) and you decided to enter the world at 5:07 the next morning. Can I just tell you that these past 2 weeks have been the most rewarding and challenging weeks ever! Teaching you how to live is hard! But it is the greatest job in the world! My biggest hopes for you right now are that you are well fed and warm. Speaking of well fed, you love to nurse. I was on the fence about it before you were born, sweet angel. I didn't know if I wanted to do it... But now I wouldn't have it any other way! It gives us special bonding time and I thank God that He has given me the ability to provide for you in that way. And when we have awake/active time, you have started to track your eyes toward my voice. That makes me so happy.

Did you know you have a cow-lick on the crown of your beautiful blonde hair? That is a Lindley thing. Speaking of Lindley, you still look just like your daddy. And it makes him so proud. Your dad can't wait to come home everyday to spend time with you! And I am so lucky to spend 12 weeks with you. I want to soak up every minute!

Do you think I'm doing a good job? Do you love me as much as I love you? I am head of heels in love with you, little one, and I hope you feel the same way! You are the absolute light of my life!

A few things about you at 2 weeks:
- You still have the black belly button. We clean it several times a day, and hope that thing falls off soon.
- you little tee tee is healing so well
- You are currently wearing newborn size clothes and diapers. Most of the clothes mommy bought for you are still too big. I love your little self!
-When you sleep, you make little grunts and moans. It was hard for mommy to sleep the first few nights, and it continues to be hard when you make those noises
-You've had 3 semi-baths, and you really don't know what to think about them. But you love it after when you are wrapped in your towel blanket
- Still love to be swaddled, but you are starting to like your arms out of it during sleep
-Nursing every 2-3 hours. At this point, we are at the mercy of your sweet baby belly!

Pictures of one week and today...my baby is getting so big!

giving me the "one eye"

again with the "one eye"

Bless your angel, monkey, love of my life bones!

Bottom line: I love you, baby boy! More than I have ever loved anything. Still blows my mind that we made you, you lived in my belly, and poof you're here now.
You are my greatest gift!

Love,
Your mommy

The little uterus that could

Methergine: Helps the uterus contract when it's not appropriately doing it's job.

I know this because I spent my Friday night in the hospital after my uterus decided it wasn't going to work for the night. Scared us to death! After several hours, lots of work ups and exams, and a big shot of Methergine, we headed home! So thankful my mom lives 1 minute from us! While all this was happening, sweet Hudson just sleep most of the time....he said he didn't mind the OB ER that much! Bless his sweet angel bones!

So we've spent this weekend resting on the couch, snuggling with my loves, and coaching my little uterus that could.... Wouldn't have it any other way!

Also like to mention that Joey went to 6 pharmacies trying to find this drug. Bless his angel heart. One of them said he fills this drug 1-2 times per year!

We've joked since my labor that I didn't have a drama moment... Shocking, right? Well here it is. Can't do anything without alittle flare!

game changer

I went into work on Wednesday like everything was normal. Big girl scrubs and all...

Ended my work day like this...in a chubby girl hospital gown.
My water broke at work! Luckily, I work at the hospital. And my doctor was on call.

Ready to meet him!

Early Thursday morning, we received our blessing from God.
Literally my greatest accomplishment!

Joseph Hudson Lindley
born at 5:07 am on September 29, 2011
6 pounds, 3 ounzes, 20 inches long

With a FULL head of blonde hair! We love it!

A few more pictures from the hospital.

 My angel

Joey and his mini me. Ya'll, he looks just like his daddy! IDENTICAL!
These two are my greatest blessings!

One of my favorite pictures of him. Those eyes melt my heart!

Now, I could go on for days about how it was the greatest experience of my life. How I continue to cry when I think about how we made him, how perfect he is, and how thankful I am that God allowed me to be his mother...but I am crying as I type this and I won't go all hormonal on you.

Just know this:
1. If you don't believe in Jesus after the whole pregnancy/labor experience, you have lost your mind and we are in a fight
2. Please look at that last picture and tell me he isn't the cutest thing ever!
3. I plan to blog about my whole experience when I have time...hopefully soon!
4. We are so thankful for all that have checked on us, and came to visit us in the hospital and at home. Hudson loves being loved on.
5. I am exhausted, but when I get the chance to sleep...I just want to watch him. (I know I need to sleep, I am working on that!)

Hudson Lindley,
we are obsessed with you. How did we live our life before you were born?
I want you to stay this small forever.
And I hope you love me as much as I love you!
